Grounded in both the Business and Engineering disciplines, I obtained a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, an MBA in Strategic Management from Strathclyde Graduate Business School, and a PhD in Business Administration from Manchester Business School, on a joint program with Manchester Institute on Innovation Research. Between 2004 and 2010, I was faculty affiliate at Harvard Business School, where I refined my domain knowledge on competitiveness at the Institute of Strategy and Competitiveness. Over the years, I have taught strategy and international management at leading AACSB business schools such as Manchester, Bradford and Harvard. Consequently, I received accolade in the UK Financial Times as Professor of the Week in 2013.
For more than 20 years, I have written about 65 papers including top tiered journals such as the Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Marketing, and Science of the Total Environment. My work resides in areas of industry clusters, international management and the forefront of circular economy research. Some high impact papers include circular economy practices in Asia (JCLP, IF=7.10, SJR=1.620), perceptions toward remanufactured goods (JBR, IF=5.35, SJR=1.684) and material circular economy using composite recovery (STOTEN, IF=5.90, SJR=1.536).
Other than delving into discoveries that make a difference, I am passionate about helping governments and businesses gain competitiveness and environmental sustainability, in particular promoting sustainable business practices in the circular economy. Integrating between the needs of government, industry and society, I often help organizations in reshape their thinking, and winning in a circular economy. In 2019, the Singapore Government has selected me to represent Singapore's interest in the standardization of ISO/TC 323 Circular Economy at the ISO.
On the personal front, I am happily married to my lovely wife, with whom I share my free time on social and ballroom dancing with her, and I am a dedicated father to my two teenager sons, teaching them to live life and to work hard at achieving their goals.
