In an era of galloping globalization, many Asian countries have been guilty of depleting the Earth’s resources indiscriminately for the blind faith in economic development. Further reflecting that our one-off consumption causes severe environmental pollution, I became interested in the subject of ‘circular economy’ which emphasizes the cyclical use of resources.

After meeting Associate Professor Adrian Kuah, a research leader in the field of circular economy and sustainability, my determination to pursue a PhD became stronger. James Cook University is indeed a world leader in addressing environmental issues facing the Tropics, and my research on this latest phenomenon of sustainability is strongly supported by JCU. I chose JCU Singapore as my research focuses on Singapore, China and South Korea. I have been fortunate to secure AP Kuah as my primary supervisor for his expertise and work with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). I am also very happy to be offered a full-time scholarship by JCU to pursue this endeavour.
